The Luoyang Longmen Grottoes are about an hour and a half from Xi'an on the fast train from the Xi'an North Railway Station. The stop is called "Luoyang Longmen". From the train station to the grottoes by taxi is about 25 CNY.
At the site, the path goes by the grottoes first and then crosses the far river bridge to the east side where there are excellent views of the big Buddhas. The trail then continues to the exit. Electric shuttles are available from the east side to the exit.
Most of the small Buddhas in the caves and on the walls are disfigured by having had their faces destroyed. The highlight of the grottoes are the large figures at the end.
